May Member Spotlight- Erin Marrone

Congratulations to our May Member Spotlight, Erin! We are excited to honor you this month for your hard work and consistent efforts.  Talk about effort…Erin is expecting her first child next month and she has not skipped a beat! She is a prime example of making it work and getting the job done.  She shows up to class with a smile, works with the coaches to get proper modifications, and completes her WODs with pride. We’re happy to have her as part of our ISLIP CF family. Keep up the great work, Erin!


Remarks from the Islip CrossFit Coaches…

When I think of “Effort earns respect” Erin is one of the first people to come to my mind. From day one, she has always shown up and given 100% effort for every WOD. That effort is highlighted even more throughout her pregnancy.   She has not missed a beat and will often just ask what she can do to alter the movements and still get the best workout. She is a great example of the notion that CrossFit is about adaptable for everyone. Congrats Erin, and very well deserved! — Coach Pete

I love that we are highlighting Erin this month! She’s a quiet, steady 6pm/7pm’er who has really come a long way in her time here. She’s been working so hard without complaint, she simply puts in the work we ask of her each day. All About Erin…

  • Tell us about yourself?
    • I’m 29, just got married last May to that guy with the mustache and we are expecting our first baby in June.  I love exploring new coffee shops and restaurants. I have celiac, so I am always looking for a great restaurant with Gluten Free options.  I also enjoy cooking and baking, I spend a lot of time in the kitchen testing out new recipes.
    •  Besides food, I love being outside, I go to the trail at Cold Spring a lot with our dog Max.
    • I love a good spa day!
  • What do you do out in the real world?
    • Currently working as an e-commerce and marketing manager for Barista Underground, a B2B wholesaler to coffee shops across the nation.



  • What brought you to Islip CF? How long have you been doing CrossFit?
    • Mike and I moved to Islip at the end of the summer and were very happy to find this box so close to our house!  We had been cross fitting in Glen Cove beforehand. I started crossfit about 4 years ago and will never be able to go back to a conventional gym.
  • What was your first CF workout? What did you think after it?
    • Oh gosh, I can’t remember that, but I do remember my first workout at Islip.  I was by myself on a Friday at 7pm and coach Phil jumped in and did the WOD with me, which was nice, my other CF didn’t do that.  
  • What changes have you made in your workouts that have been the most successful?
    • Keeping the weight lower to focus on form first.  I used to have issues with my back, but *knock on wood* shortly after starting CF and learning the way to properly move in the gym they have gone away.
  • Most embarrassing/funniest gym moment?
    • There have been a few times when I’ve gotten home from the gym and realized I had my pants on backwards. Whoops.
  • Favorite movement? Least favorite? Benchmark WOD?
    • I like snatch movements; I feel them in my whole body.  
    • Least favorite, Front Squat for sure!  
  • Favorite memory at Islip Crossfit?
    • The Open was fun, nice to see everyone so supportive of one another.
  • If you could program it, what is your perfect workout?
    • Something with snatches and double-unders!  
  • Favorite workout music?
    • Metal, Rock, 90’s Hip Hop.  Really anything that is very loud with a good beat to keep me from overthinking the workout and that will keep my energy up!
  • Advice for a new member or someone thinking of trying CrossFit?
    • Stick with it! Don’t be intimidated, everyone started out not knowing what they were doing just like you.
  • How do you find/make time to get your workouts in?
    • I have to go right after I get out of work otherwise, I get too tired.  I’m sure once the little babe is here my answer will be completely different, but luckily Mike helps me get to the gym on days when I am feeling like I have no energy.  
  • What is your favorite part of Islip CrossFit?
    • All of the members and coaches are so nice and I am enjoying getting to know everyone.
  • What motivates you to keep coming back each day?
    • I never want to not be able to take care of myself or have limits in my life due to physical ailments that I can prevent now.  I always feel so much better when I’m moving.
  • What is your greatest achievement in your fitness so far?
    • My endurance has definitely increased since doing CF.
  • What has been the most challenging part?
    • Running was never easy for me (still isn’t), but I push through it.
  • Short term goal? Long term goal?
    • Short Term: staying active in my pregnancy and coming back strong
    • Long Term: Getting rid of the gut!
  • What/Who motivates or inspires you?
    • Being surrounded by a community of people who value fitness and health is very motivating.  My two best friends are fitness goddesses and I always look to them for inspiration. It also helps having a husband who wants to be healthy and fit for our growing family.



  • Favorite Cheat Meal?
    • Gluten Free Pizza & Rosé
  • What changes have you made in your diet that have been the most successful?
    • Focusing on eating whole foods.  
    • Cooking most meals at home instead of eating out/take out.   
    • Giving up on trying to eat perfect every day, it’s unrealistic and will set you back every time
  • What is the worst “diet” you’ve ever been on?
    • Trying to eat only 1200 cals a day – crazy!
  • What’s your go to breakfast?
    • During the week: Smoothie – favorite is banana, spinach, collagen, coconut milk, ice, almond butter.
    • Weekends: GF Bagel with Veggie Cream Cheese
  • Do you eat before you workout? (If so, what?)
    • No! If I’m starving right before I will take 2-3 bites of whatever is in the fridge to settle my stomach, but I have my last “meal” probably 3-4 hours before working out.



  • Something no one at the gym knows about you?
    • I lived in Australia for 6 months on study abroad

    • Hmm …
  • Best Vacation?
    • Went backpacking through Europe when I was 22 – Amazing experience!

    • Coffee shop or the grocery store

    • Back to Australia – so beautiful and so much to see.
